Piero Gauli – LA MIA UMBRIA (MY UMBRIA)
On display at Palazzo Santacroce – Grand Hotel San Gemini from 12/11/2022 to 31/01/2023

The rooms of the historic building host the visionary works of Piero Gauli, a Milanese artist who spent almost ten years of his life in Umbria (from 1948 to 1957) and who found numerous sources of inspiration for his pictorial works in the Terni area.
“Gauli” – says the art critic Cicchini – “is an expressionist painter in which the very fast sign becomes nature and architecture.” The colours are those that the author discovers in the dimension of his own self, extraneous to any correspondence of a naturalistic type, but responding rather to that colour-feeling which tends to reassure reality and make it one with the truest world of the artist. Gauli’s colour is colour that almost seems to shout. Colour that becomes, on the support, a sort of short circuit and that very quickly creates shapes that have the consistency of a vision, real scratches of light”.
