We are grateful to Jean Luc Meulemeester, who suggested attributing the painting to Jacob van Oost I based on a high-resolution photograph. A comparable painting by Jan van Oost, the foremost artist in 17th-century Bruges, can be found in the Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.
